Job Description

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at East Perry Elementary as a Special Education Instructional Assistant. This full-time position is designed for someone who is enthusiastic about supporting students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with special education teachers to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically and socially. Responsibilities Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities. Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in various academic subjects, reinforcing lessons and helping with assignments. Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed. Support students in developing social skills and appropriate behaviors within the classroom setting. Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and classroom resources tailored to meet the needs of students. Help maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning. Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and other staff to plan and execute effective instructional strategies. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices. Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as lunch and recess, ensuring their safety and well-being. Perform other related duties as assigned by the special education teacher or school administration. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field preferred. Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is strongly preferred. Knowledge of special education laws, practices, and strategies for supporting diverse learners. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff. Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to changing needs in the classroom. Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology. CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Must pass background checks and meet any state licensing requirements for instructional assistants.
