SUMMARY:
Report directly to the building principal or his/her designee. Assists with appropriate classroom activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with instructional programs and general school operations. Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children.
Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.
Alerts the teacher to the special needs of individual children.
Provides escorts assistance for children as necessary.
Helps maintain informal student performance records.
Assists teacher(s) in maintaining student work and study areas.
Assists with the supervision of children during play periods.
Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

To become an Instructional Assistant (Paraprofessional) must meet one of the following requirements to obtain your
Substitute Certification:
60 college credit hours
OR Associate's degree or higher (Emphasis on teaching)
OR Missouri ParaPro Assessment passing score (before September 23, 2013)
OR Missouri Paraprofessional Assessment passing score (September 23, 2013 and after)
OR Completed Missouri's 20-hour online substitute training program.
Ability and personality to work with colleagues, teachers, and other staff.
Successful completion of a background check by Human Resources.
PHYSICAL / TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
Exerts 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects.
Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 20 feet.
Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups.
Requires occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching for extended periods of time.
The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and is generally a hazard free environment.
Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
