DESCRIPTION
Position:

Paraprofessional

Supervisor:

Principal/Special Programs Director

Description:

Assist teacher with classroom duties and/or monitor students as assigned. Provide academic support and assist in managing the classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment.

NOTE:

The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Essential Functions:

Ensure safety of students

Work with students both individually and in small groups

Assist students with classwork and make-up work

Assist students with programmed materials

Assist with recess supervision, restroom breaks, etc.

Promote good social relationships between children

Assist students with toiletry needs as necessary

Duplicate materials for assigned students

Prepare materials for class projects

Grade papers

Maintain respect at all times for confidential information e.g., student records; free/reduced lunch forms; student test scores

Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, parents and community

Attend meetings and in-services as required

Provide assistance to classroom teacher

Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional growth seminars, workshops, etc.

Promote good public relations

Knowledge of computers skills, emails, and spreadsheets

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Play learning games

Prepare materials, and equipment as directed by immediate supervisor

Supervise general housekeeping duties

Keep permanent records up-to-date

Assist with special school projects

Assist with students on field trips

Administer first aid to students as necessary

Prepare correspondence, including reports and such other correspondence as may be required

Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner

Defer parent inquiries to classroom teacher

Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher and Building Principal

Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens

Qualifications:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Two years of higher education; Associate's degree or higher; or passing score on State Parapro Assessment

Hold a State Aide certificate with ESEA Qualification

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work effectively with others

Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing

Effective active listening skills

Organizational and problem solving skills

Basic computer skills

Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations

Student management skills

Basic first aid

Equipment Operated:

Computer

Copy machine

Printer

Bus lift, wheelchairs, walkers, adaptive equipment, medical supplies and equipment and adaptive computer hardware

Additional Working Conditions

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue

Frequent interaction with unruly children

Frequent and regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoop

Occasional requirement to carry, lift, push and pull items up to a maximum of 50 pounds

Supervises/assists with clean intermittent catheterization or other delegated nursing procedures with training by the school nurse, in accordance with the students Individualized Education Plan.

Complies with all Louisville Board of Education policies and procedures
