Special Education Paraprofessional /
Personal Care Assistant Schedule:
Full-time, full-day assignment with a 30-minute unpaid break
Grade Levels:
Opportunities available at the Elementary, Middle School, and High School levels. Candidate preferences will be considered whenever possible. Position Summary The Special Education Paraprofessional provides behavioral, academic, and personal support to students with disabilities in educational settings. Working under the direction of teachers, case managers, behavior specialists, and other educational professionals, the Paraprofessional assists in implementing individualized educational and behavioral programs designed to support student success, independence, and inclusion. This role may involve supporting students with daily living activities, personal care needs, mobility assistance, and behavioral interventions while maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. Key Responsibilities Provide instructional support to individual students and small groups as directed by classroom teachers and educational staff. Assist with academic activities, skill development, and behavior support programs. Support students in developing cognitive, communication, social, self-help, gross motor, and fine motor skills. Implement positive behavior intervention and support strategies in accordance with established guidelines. Monitor and support student behavior to promote a safe and productive learning environment. Assist students with social interactions and participation in classroom activities. Provide personal care assistance, including feeding, toileting, hygiene support, diapering, and clothing changes as needed. Assist students with mobility needs, including lifting, positioning, transferring, and repositioning students safely. Support students using braces, orthopedic equipment, and other adaptive devices. Monitor student health conditions and report concerns to appropriate staff members. Assist teachers in maintaining records related to student progress and classroom activities. Collaborate with teachers, case managers, therapists, general education staff, and other educational professionals. Support students transitioning to mainstream classroom environments when appropriate. Participate in required trainings, professional development, and medical intervention instruction. Maintain a safe environment by identifying potential hazards and following established safety procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred. Ability to provide behavioral and academic support in a classroom setting. Ability to assist with personal care, mobility support, and activities of daily living. Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with educational staff. Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with school policies.
