Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Special Education Paraprofessional to join our special educational team. In this vital role, you will provide essential classroom support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and behavioral challenges. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help create an inclusive, nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children while gaining valuable experience in special education settings. Duties Assist teachers in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs, including behavior management and curriculum adaptation. Support students with disabilities by providing physical assistance, behavioral support, and classroom supervision to promote a safe and engaging learning environment. Collaborate closely with special education professionals, therapists, and parents to develop and execute lesson plans that incorporate literacy education, math skills, and social-emotional learning. Use communication skills such as American Sign Language (ASL) or other augmentative methods to facilitate effective interaction with students on the autism spectrum or with communication challenges. Manage classroom routines and behavior management strategies to foster positive behavior and support students with behavioral disorders or developmental disabilities. Support early childhood education initiatives, including preschool and toddler care programs, following Montessori or other specialized curricula where applicable. Handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, and families. Skills Experience working with children in classroom or childcare settings, especially those with special education needs or disabilities. Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders support strategies and behavior management techniques for students with behavioral challenges. Familiarity with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) guidelines related to inclusive education practices. Strong communication skills for collaborating effectively with teachers, therapists, parents, and other professionals. Ability to assist with lesson planning, curriculum development, and literacy or math instruction tailored for diverse learners. Experience supporting classroom activities in private school environments or early childhood programs such as preschool or Montessori settings. Competence in providing physical assistance for students requiring mobility support or classroom support in special education contexts.
