Job Description

The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has a unique opportunity to address quality of life issues for Loudoun County residents. Come be a part of our work to meet the unmet housing needs of our neighbors. This position is office-centered--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis. Partial work-from-home flexibility may be authorized. DHCD is currently seeking an energetic, customer service-focused individual to join the fast-paced Rental and Homeownership Programs team as the Housing Program Assistant. Under the general direction of the Housing Programs Manager, the position primarily supports the Affordable Dwelling Unit (ADU) Purchase and Rental Programs. The ideal candidate is someone who is highly motivated, outgoing, detail-oriented, can effortlessly multi-task, and enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds. The ADU Purchase Program enables eligible first-time homebuyers with moderate income the opportunity to purchase a newly constructed or resale ADU. The ADU Rental Program enables eligible non-homeowners the opportunity to rent an apartment from a participating apartment community at a rent below that of similar units in the community. Duties include but are not limited to: Provides excellent, courteous, and timely customer service to ADU program applicants, citizens, County staff, and others. Refers customers to appropriate staff and County resources. Screens individuals by telephone and e-mail for program eligibility. Reviews applicant documentation and refers to appropriate program and staff. Schedules applicants for intake and information sessions. Maintains required program documentation. Conducts "how-to-apply" and other presentations as needed. Provides administrative support to the ADU Program. Completes special projects as assigned, independently or as a member of a team. Develops and maintains community resources to support the ADU Program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of use and operation of automated systems, databases, and software for Department. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams). Skill in communicating clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems. Ability to prioritize work as deadlines dictate. Ability to deal with challenging customers and diffuse difficult customer situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others at the workplace. Hiring salary is commensurate with experience. High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in housing-related assistance programs or other human services fields preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish or other in-demand language) ability is preferred but not required. Successful candidates will undergo background checks as required.
