ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Student Success Center supports current SSU students by offering free tutoring for the majority of introductory courses. Tutoring can usually be arranged for courses that are not introductory courses provided the Student Success Center can secure a qualified tutor for that subject. Free Supplemental Instruction is also available for currently enrolled SSU students in certain courses. Supplemental Instruction is peer-led study sessions where the SI Leader works closely with the course instructor and may even attend the class being tutored.
POSITION SUMMARY, ROUTINE TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Tutors are responsible for cheerfully greeting and welcoming students as well as assisting them with homework and study skills. If tutors cannot answer students' questions, then it is the tutor's responsibility to find the course instructor or another faculty member and ask for help. Tutors are not allowed to send students away because they are unfamiliar with course concepts. Training will be provided for Microsoft Office Teams Shifts, the student tracker form, as well as Bb Ultra Collaborate. Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and a minimum session GPA of 2.5.
Preferred skills:
Tutors need to have earned a grade of B or higher in the course being tutored within the last two years Confidentiality expectations - tutors are not to discuss tutees with other tutors unless it is in real time for helping a student solve problems Software Knowledge - Familiarity with Blackboard Ability to keep a brief session log of each tutoring session Minimum Qualifications Registered full-time SSU student Eligible to work in the United States Strong communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and follow instructions Ability to work independently and as part of a team Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms Follow SSU dress code policy
