RECREATIONAL SPORTS

Job Summary Intramural Sports Officials play a key role in fostering a fun, fair, and safe environment for students participating in intramural sports. In this position, you'll learn the rules of various sports, manage gameplay, make confident and impartial calls, and encourage good sportsmanship among participants. This role offers a great opportunity to stay active, develop leadership and communication skills, and become part of a supportive campus community. You'll also gain valuable experience in customer service, conflict resolution, time management, and teamwork skills that are transferable to any future career. Department-Specific Responsibilities Creates a positive experience for players and spectators by being friendly, helpful, and professional. Completes weekly requirements to stay up to date on rules and expectations. Spots and addresses issues early. If something escalates, notify a supervisor right away. Enforces rules of the game, ensuring participant safety, managing game time and maintaining the flow of competition. Checks score sheets and scoreboards for accuracy. Reports sportsmanship ratings to your supervisor. Helps inspect the playing area for safety and enforce policies. Keeps games running on time and space clear of clutter. Qualifications

EDUCATION

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred Prior officiating experience SKILLS Required Effective communication skills with the ability to engage a wide range of individuals Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-focused attitude Ability to collaborate and contribute in a team-oriented environment Service-oriented and dependable Willingness to take on new challenges Working Conditions / Demands These positions require standing for long periods of time and frequently moving about the workspace. Positions require working both indoors and outdoors and ability to move objects up to 50 pounds with assistance. Onsite work will take place at the following campus recreation facilities, depending on the needs of each sporting event: Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC) Bill Garrett Fieldhouse Sembower Recreational Sports Field Complex Advertised Salary $12.00 per hour Work Hours Average of 8-12 hours per week, not to exceed 29 hours per week across all campus positions. Must officiate at least one sport season per semester (each semester includes 2 sport seasons). Flexible scheduling is available and may vary by sport and position. Early morning, evening, and weekend shifts may be required based on game schedules.
