June 3, 2027 Position Overview We are seeking qualified Educational Technician III (Ed Tech III) professionals to support students in an educational setting. The role includes responsibilities and working conditions associated with Ed Tech I and II positions, along with the ability to work with students in specialized programs and community-based settings under regular professional supervision. Key Responsibilities Provide educational and behavioral support to students based on individual needs and program requirements. Assist teachers and other educational professionals with instructional activities and student support. Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce educational goals and skills. May supervise small groups in community-based programs with indirect, regular professional supervision. Support students in developing academic, social, behavioral, communication, and functional skills. Participate in ongoing professional development and in-service training related to the specialty area of employment. Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and other school personnel. Follow student support plans, classroom procedures, and school policies. Required Qualifications To become a certified Educational Technician , candidates must apply for certification through the Maine Department of Education . For Educational Technician III , candidates generally need: Three years of post-secondary education or 90 approved credit hours of study in a related area. For Vocational Education, three years of work experience in a related field may apply.
Approved study may include:
College or university credits Continuing Education Units (CEUs) issued by a college or institution In-service credits Approved contact hours Candidates must complete 90 hours of professional development or 6 college/university credits during the five-year authorization period. Ongoing in-service training in the specialty area of employment is required at the Ed Tech III level. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have experience supporting students in educational or specialized settings and be comfortable working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals. Strong communication, patience, organization, and the ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs are highly valued.
