Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) STEM Education Center invites applications for a full-time Literacy Coordinator to support the implementation of New Mexico's structured literacy initiatives within the Educator Preparation Program (EPP). The Literacy Coordinator will provide leadership in evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading, support faculty and teacher candidates, coordinate structured literacy clinical experiences, and ensure compliance with New Mexico Higher Education Department (HED) and New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) requirements. The position also serves as a liaison with partner school districts and supports continuous improvement of NMT's teacher preparation programs. This is a full-time, grant-funded staff position, could be a hybrid position, depending on experience. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Join the

JOB FUNCTIONS
Lead implementation of structured literacy and Science of Reading initiatives within the Educator Preparation Program. Coordinate and monitor structured literacy clinical experiences for teacher candidates. Support faculty in integrating evidence-based literacy practices into coursework and clinical experiences. Collaborate with local school districts, mentor teachers, and state agencies to strengthen educator preparation. Recruit, advise, mentor, and observe teacher candidates. Collect program data, maintain documentation, and prepare required state reports. Support continuous program improvement and accreditation efforts. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the director of the STEM Education Center
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in education, literacy, reading or related fields. Teaching license.

A minimum of five years of experience as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, or literacy coach. A strong understanding of reading processes, assessment, and adult learning. The ability to collaborate effectively with higher education faculty, state agencies, and LEAs. Teaching license and experience required, NM Drivers license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A master's or doctoral degree in education, literacy, or reading.
