Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch Position Summary The Wooden Truss Designer is responsible for designing roof and floor truss systems using Alpine design software. This position involves interpreting architectural plans and customer specifications, creating accurate and efficient truss designs, and ensuring that designs meet applicable building codes, engineering requirements, and company standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable working independently in a computer-based office environment. Strong attention to detail and the ability to retain and apply technical information are essential. General construction knowledge and experience reading residential house plans or blueprints are preferred; however, we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates the ability and willingness to learn. This position may be especially well suited for someone with an interest in construction, structural design, engineering, or computer-aided design (CAD). Essential Functions The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to: Design roof and floor truss systems using Alpine software based on customer plans, specifications, and project requirements. Accurately interpret and input information from architectural drawings, blueprints, and construction documents. Produce accurate and timely truss designs while meeting plan specifications, applicable building codes, and company standards. Review designs for accuracy, efficiency, constructability, and proper material usage. Identify and troubleshoot design or engineering issues and communicate questions, concerns, or required changes to the appropriate personnel. Make design adjustments and provide appropriate notes and documentation to ensure efficient production. Optimize truss designs for proper material usage while considering current inventory, material availability, and cost. Maintain accurate records and documentation for each assigned job. Communicate effectively with customers, sales staff, production personnel, and management regarding design requirements and potential issues. Manage multiple projects while meeting established deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy. Maintain an organized and efficient work environment. Continue developing knowledge of truss design, construction practices, building codes, and company procedures. Occasionally travel to residential construction sites to take measurements, verify dimensions, or assist with field-related design requirements. Qualifications & Skills The successful candidate should have: Strong attention to detail and accuracy. The ability to read and understand residential construction plans or the willingness and ability to learn. The ability to learn and effectively use specialized computer software. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. The ability to retain technical information and apply it to future projects. The ability to work independently and take initiative. Good communication and organizational skills. The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Basic computer skills and comfort working at a computer for extended periods. General construction knowledge is preferred but not required. Experience with truss design, Alpine software, CAD, engineering, construction, or residential framing is a plus. What This Job Is Like This is primarily an office-based position that involves working at a computer for much of the day. The work requires concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail, but it is not limited to sitting behind a desk. The position may include occasional field visits to construction sites to measure homes, verify dimensions, or better understand project requirements.
