We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Detailer with proven expertise in Autodesk Fusion 360. The primary responsibility of this role is to translate customer-provided drawings or hand sketches into precise, fabrication-ready shop drawings. This individual will play a crucial role in the production workflow, ensuring that our fabricators have all the necessary information to accurately manufacture parts and assemble components. Beyond detailing, the role includes optimizing material usage through specialized nesting software and assisting with inventory management. Pay rate based on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
CAD Detailing and Shop Drawing Creation (Fusion 360): Utilize Autodesk Fusion 360 as the primary CAD software to create comprehensive and accurate shop drawings. Interpret and translate a variety of input materials, including complex customer engineering drawings, technical specifications, and even rough hand sketches, into detailed 2D and 3D CAD models. Develop detailed shop drawings that include all necessary views, dimensions, tolerances, material callouts, welding symbols, assembly instructions, and other relevant information required for fabrication. Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, company standards, and project-specific requirements. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and fabricators to clarify design intent and resolve any discrepancies or issues identified during the detailing process. Prepare CAD models and drawings for export to nesting software.
Material Optimization and Nesting:
Generate precise geometry (e.g., DXF files) from Fusion 360 for import into specialized nesting software. Utilize Hypertherm ProNest for efficient sheet inventory management and nesting of sheet materials. Utilize OptiCutter for optimizing cuts and nesting of structural and tubular lengths. Work with these nesting solutions to minimize material waste, reduce production costs, and maximize material yield. Generate cutting files and associated reports from nesting software for CNC machinery.
Inventory Management Support:
Accurately record and update stock information into the company's inventory management system, with a focus on integrating data from Hypertherm ProNest for sheet stock. Assist in tracking material usage, reporting shortages, and contributing to efficient stock control. Work closely with procurement and production teams to ensure timely availability of materials and accurate inventory records.
Collaboration and Communication:
Maintain clear and consistent communication with internal teams (fabrication, engineering, sales) to ensure project specifications are met and timelines are adhered to. Provide technical support and clarification to fabricators regarding shop drawings and nesting outputs. Participate in design reviews and production meetings to offer insights from a detailing and fabrication perspective.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Software Proficiency:
Proficiency in Autodesk Fusion 360 (modeling, drafting, CAM features). Demonstrated experience with Hypertherm ProNest for sheet nesting and inventory management. Demonstrated experience with OptiCutter for structural and tubular nesting. Ability to export and import CAD data between different software platforms (e.g., DXF, DWG). Familiarity with other CAD/CAM software is a plus.
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of drafting principles, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). In-depth knowledge of various fabrication processes (e.g., welding, machining, sheet metal forming, assembly). Ability to read, interpret, and create complex technical drawings and specifications. Understanding of common manufacturing materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, plastics) and their properties. Expertise in material nesting methodologies and optimization techniques specific to sheet, structural, and tubular stock.
Experience:
2 - 5 years of experience as a CAD Detailer in a manufacturing or fabrication environment. Experience working with customer-supplied data and hand sketches. Attention to
Detail:
Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all drawings and data entries.
Problem-Solving:
Ability to identify and resolve design and detailing challenges efficiently, including optimizing for nesting software.
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with diverse teams.
Self-Motivated:
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Expected Outcomes/Deliverables:
High-quality, error-free shop drawings that meet fabrication requirements. Optimized material nesting layouts generated through Hypertherm ProNest and OptiCutter, with associated cutting files. Accurate and timely updates to inventory records, particularly concerning sheet material. Contribution to reduced material waste and improved production efficiency.
