Position Summary The Junior Machining Process Engineer supports the development, optimization, and continuous improvement of machining processes used in the production of precision metal components. Working closely with senior engineers, production supervisors, quality teams, and maintenance personnel, this role focuses on improving safety, quality, productivity, and cost while supporting daily manufacturing operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to build expertise in CNC machining, process development, tooling, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement within a metals manufacturing environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Support the development and optimization of CNC machining processes for steel, aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, and other metal components. Assist in troubleshooting machining issues related to quality, cycle time, tooling, and machine performance. Develop and maintain standardized work instructions, process sheets, setup documentation, and manufacturing procedures. Monitor machining performance through process capability studies, SPC data, scrap analysis, and production metrics. Participate in root cause investigations using 5 Why, Fishbone Diagrams, and other structured problem-solving methods. Assist with new product launches, process validation, PPAP documentation, and first article inspections. Support tooling selection, cutting parameter optimization, fixture design reviews, and workholding improvements. Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to minimize downtime and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Analyze cycle times and identify opportunities to increase throughput while maintaining product quality. Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on reducing scrap, improving productivity, and lowering manufacturing costs. Assist with capital equipment installations, machine qualifications, and production startup activities. Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing initiatives including 5S, Kaizen, SMED, and waste elimination. Maintain accurate engineering documentation including process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and work instructions. Ensure compliance with company safety policies and environmental regulations. Work with suppliers on tooling, cutting inserts, coolants, and machining consumables. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline. Will consider in lieu of a degree 0-3 years of engineering experience in a machining or metals manufacturing environment (internships and co-op experience considered). Basic understanding of CNC machining processes including turning, milling, drilling, boring, and grinding. Familiarity with machining fundamentals including feeds, speeds, cutting tools, and workholding principles. Knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and blueprint interpretation. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with CNC machining centers (Mazak, Haas, Okuma, Mori Seiki, Makino, Doosan, or similar). Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, or Inventor. Exposure to CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, Esprit, or NX CAM. Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Plex, or Epicor. Basic knowledge of SPC, process capability (Cp/Cpk), PFMEA, and control plans. Internship or co-op experience in automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, or precision machining industries. CIV123
