Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG) is seeking a motivated and dependable Engineering Technician to join our team in Belleville, Illinois. This is an entry- or mid-level position designed for an individual interested in building a career in the engineering and construction industry through a combination of hands-on field experience and technical office work. The Engineering Technician will support multiple areas of KEG's engineering and contracting operations, including geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, surveying, and physical construction activities. The position may also assist with office-based technical assignments such as utility coordination, GIS, CADD, data collection and management, and preparation of project documentation. The variety of assignments will provide the successful candidate with exposure to multiple disciplines and the opportunity to develop a broad technical skill set. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys working both outdoors and in an office environment, is comfortable learning new skills, and takes ownership of their professional development. KEG will provide training and guidance; however, the successful candidate will be expected to progressively develop the knowledge, judgment, and technical skills necessary to complete assigned tasks independently and reliably.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist geotechnical engineering staff with field investigations, including observation and documentation of drilling and sampling activities, field testing, site reconnaissance, and collection of project data. Assist with construction inspection and observation activities to document construction progress and verify work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and applicable requirements. Support survey crews with field data collection, equipment setup, measurements, staking, and other surveying activities. Assist KEG's contracting operations with traffic control, field activities, documentation, measurements, material quantities, coordination, and other project needs. Perform field measurements, observations, photographs, and documentation and accurately record information for use by engineers, surveyors, construction personnel, and project managers. Prepare clear, complete, and timely daily reports, field notes, logs, photographs, and other project documentation. Assist with utility coordination activities, including research, documentation, plan review, communication, and maintenance of utility information. Assist with GIS, data collection, mapping, database updates, and preparation of exhibits. Perform basic CADD drafting and plan or exhibit preparation as skills and experience develop. Assist with project research, data entry, quantity calculations, document preparation, and other technical office assignments. Safely operate and maintain field equipment and company vehicles as assigned. Follow applicable project-specific and company safety procedures while working on construction sites, roadways, and other field locations. Coordinate effectively with KEG engineers, surveyors, inspectors, contractors, clients, and other project team members. Participate in training and actively develop the technical knowledge necessary to take increasing responsibility for assigned tasks. Demonstrate the ability to retain and apply training, recognize when additional direction is needed, and progressively perform recurring assignments with limited supervision. Perform other field and technical duties as needed to support KEG's project workload.

REQUIREMENTS

Associate's or bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Geography, GIS, Construction Management, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred. Candidates with relevant technical education, training, or industry experience will also be considered. Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply; prior professional experience is not required. Previous exposure to engineering, surveying, construction, utilities, infrastructure, or related industries through employment, internships, coursework, family business, military service, or other experience is preferred. Strong willingness and ability to learn new technical skills and apply training to future assignments. Ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities and develop toward completing routine tasks independently. Dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and committed to producing accurate work. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn technical software including CADD, GIS, and other engineering applications. Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction and project sites. Ability to perform physical field activities, including walking over uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, carrying field equipment, and performing other activities associated with field investigations, surveying, and construction observation. Ability to work a flexible schedule when project needs require early mornings, extended days, or occasional overtime. Willingness to travel to project sites throughout the region, including occasional overnight travel when necessary. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
