Field Technician

Job Description

Position Summary:
The Field Technician I performs field testing, inspections, and data collection related to soil, rock, and construction materials. The role supports civil and geotechnical engineers by gathering the field data used to design foundations, roads, and stormwater management facilities. Technicians work mainly on construction sites and field locations, conducting tests on soil and rock to ensure projects meet engineering standards and safety requirements. The Field Technician I works under direct supervision and follows established procedures and guidelines as outlined in the employee handbook.
Job Description:
  • Assists in performing soil testing for geotechnical projects at sites using a hand auger
  • Ensures truck is stocked with necessary materials to perform testing, including augers, DCP, Digging Bar, Water Jugs, PVC Pipe, etc.
  • Conduct density tests using a dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP)
  • Assist with backhoe and drilling operations during site investigations, as warranted
  • Collect and record soil and material samples
  • Document field observations and test results
  • Maintain accurate logs and reports for engineers and project manager
  • Drop soils samples at laboratory for sampling
  • Work with staff engineers and advise
  • Support geotechnical investigations and foundation design projects
  • Ensure project deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Provides top-notch customer service
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or associate degree (civil engineering technology or related field preferred) 1+ year of construction, inspection, or soils testing experience Ability to lift heavy equipment (50 lbs or more) Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Good verbal and written communication skills Familiarity with basic office equipment Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
