Engineering Technician V

Job Description

Technically oriented position, which provides direct support and information to the design, construction and maintenance staff. Capable of designing and preparing plans and special provisions for maintenance and highway construction projects. Includes, but not limited to, the area of construction project layout, resource allocation, precise measuring, necessary observation, immediate charge of the engineering details of a construction project, testing and documentation. Capable of determining and preparing boundary surveys and deeds for the purpose of obtaining right of way needed for projects. Write and prepare deeds for the negotiations and purchase of property needed for construction purposes. Capable of performing drafting work on a CAD system from raw field data and convert to cross-sectional and topographical information. Perform basis drafting work and perform technical calculations relating to the design of highway and bridge projects. Gather information and prepare specifications and plans for the construction of highway projects and maintenance within the scope of this department. Collect, supervise and maintain information pertaining to the Pavement Management System operated by St. Clair County. Construction site observation and charge. Ability to perform duties with limited supervision Direct and oversee operation and maintenance of traffic signals and storm water pumping station Other duties assigned by the County Engineer Requires an Associate in Science Degree or equivalent, having a solid background in the areas of math, including geometry and algebra. Knowledge, skills and scholastic development equivalent to three years of college in pre-engineering curriculum. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Capable of operating and maintaining computer databases and the reports generated by them. At least five (5) years of engineering related work. Ability to traverse uneven ground Valid driver's license. Post offer alcohol test, drug test and background check required.
