As our firm continues to grow, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural CAD Drafter / Technician to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced Professional Engineers on a wide range of structural and forensic engineering projects. Position Summary Faron Engineering is seeking a Structural CAD Drafter / Technician with experience preparing structural construction documents for building structures. The successful candidate will assist with the preparation of structural drawings, construction documents, repair details, existing condition drawings, and forensic investigation exhibits based on engineer markups, calculations, sketches, and field observations. This position is ideal for someone with strong AutoCAD skills and a solid understanding of structural systems who enjoys producing high-quality, construction-ready drawings while working closely with structural engineers on diverse projects. Candidates with structural drafting experience, construction experience, and forensic engineering project experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Prepare structural construction drawings including foundation plans, framing plans, sections, details, and schedules. Develop drawings from engineering calculations, sketches, markups, redlines, and field measurements. Prepare repair, retrofit, and existing-condition drawings for structural engineering projects. Assemble complete drawing sets with proper sheet organization, notes, callouts, references, and project documentation. Revise drawings based on engineering review comments and maintain document control throughout project development. Coordinate with engineers to resolve discrepancies, conflicts, and missing information. Assist in the preparation of forensic investigation exhibits, technical graphics, and supporting documentation. Prepare as-built drawings and documentation from field observations and site investigations. Review drawings for accuracy, consistency, constructability, and overall quality. Support structural engineers with project documentation and coordination efforts. Maintain company drafting standards and quality control procedures. Required Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of structural drafting experience involving building structures. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD. Experience preparing structural construction documents for permit and construction use. Ability to interpret engineering calculations, sketches, markups, and design concepts. Working knowledge of structural systems, construction methods, and building practices. Familiarity with structural materials including steel, concrete, masonry, and wood construction. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. Ability to travel locally to project sites, field visits, and meetings as needed. Must be local and available to work from our Willowbrook office. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Revit. Familiarity with applicable building codes and industry standards including IBC, ACI, AISC, and NDS. Experience working directly with structural engineers. Experience preparing repair, retrofit, and rehabilitation drawings. Experience preparing existing-condition and as-built drawings. Experience supporting forensic engineering projects and investigations. Highly Desired Qualifications Construction experience in residential, commercial, industrial, or municipal projects. Experience with forensic engineering investigations, construction defect projects, or property damage assessments. Ability to identify inconsistencies, conflicts, or missing information in drawings prior to engineering review. Understanding of construction methods, structural systems, and field practices. Experience preparing technical exhibits, investigation graphics, and supporting documentation. Strong attention to detail, organization, and drawing quality control. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Work Environment This position is primarily office-based with occasional local travel for project-related assignments and field documentation. Applicants must be comfortable performing occasional site visits throughout the Chicagoland area and surrounding regions as project needs require. Only candidates residing in the Chicagoland area or surrounding communities will be considered. Applicants must be able to reasonably commute to our office located in Willowbrook, Illinois, as well as regional project locations as required.
