SUMMARY OF POSITION
An Associate Architect for the Orren Pickell Design Group is responsible for assisting with the design of remodeling and new home construction projects and drafting of the plans. The position requires extensive knowledge of and experience with computer drafting, along with a work history of collaboration in a team environment. An associate architect will focus on designing and drawing architectural documents for fully custom residential projects, working closely with clients and lead architects. The work demands thoroughness, attention to detail, the ability to meet or exceed deadlines and successfully execute assigned tasks. The Associate Architect should be able to work with minimal supervision or direction and demonstrate the ability to identify and solve design challenges.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates in client and/or staff meetings to understand and create designs that are functional, safe, sustainable, within budget constraints, and aesthetically pleasing.
- Creates architectural designs and highly detailed drawings by using computer-aided design (CAD) applications.
- Researches ideas for designs and innovative products and materials.
- Prepares computations of moderate complexity, prepares specifications and modifies drawings as necessary.
- Responsible for due diligence of building codes and government requirements for the designs.
- Maintains accurate and detailed client files and project notes.
- Works with design, engineering and municipal professionals to provide all required documents for building permits, zoning, and construction.
- Assists clients with architectural selections.
- Prepares field measurements as needed.
- Utilizes Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to type letters, memos, reports and other presentation materials.
- Performs related duties as assigned or needed.

An Associate Architect must be able to work independently and demonstrate an ability to work cohesively with clients, colleagues and trade partners to prepare construction documents with accuracy and within established timeframes. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of CAD software
- Detail oriented with an ability to plan, organize and supervise multiple projects simultaneously

EXPERIENCE
Requires a bachelor's degree in Architecture and two (2) years' experience. Construction experience is desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Strong knowledge of English (spelling, punctuation, grammar, format and tone) and of office practices and procedures.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to receive and assess information to solve practical problems and manage a variety of situations, with the Company Core Values influencing resolutions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Licensed architect in Illinois or on a path to obtain license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office and showroom environment. When attending site meetings, protective clothing and shoes are required.
