Structural Design Engineer

Job Description

JSG (Johnson Service Group) is seeking an experienced Structural Design Engineer to support high-voltage substation and power-delivery projects. This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects involving the design of substation structures, foundations, electrical layouts, and related infrastructure. The Design Engineer will be responsible for conceptual, preliminary, and final designs for high-voltage substation structures and foundations. This individual will ensure designs meet applicable engineering codes, industry standards, and project specifications while working closely with project managers, customers, engineers, designers, and other project stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Develop preliminary engineering designs and estimates to support project proposals. Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and final designs for high-voltage substations and switchyards. Design and interpret engineering drawings for: Substation structures Structural foundations Lightning protection systems Aluminum bus systems Factory-built and modular substation structures Perform and/or review structural engineering calculations. Perform and/or review foundation design calculations. Review substation equipment drawings, structural designs, and equipment specifications. Review steel layouts, foundation plans, fencing layouts, and detailed construction drawings. Review general arrangement drawings for electrical clearances and physical/electrical layout requirements. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, customer specifications, and project requirements. Coordinate engineering documents, schedules, and technical requirements with project managers and other project stakeholders. Troubleshoot and resolve engineering issues involving design, construction, fabrication, and regulatory compliance. Provide technical guidance and answer engineering questions from project managers, customers, contractors, and other representatives. Review fabrication and construction documents prepared by other engineering and design personnel. Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, project execution, and overall customer satisfaction. Qualifications Bachelors degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline Experience designing high-voltage substations, transmission/power-delivery infrastructure, structural systems, or similar utility projects Strong understanding of structural and foundation design principles Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents Knowledge of applicable engineering codes and industry standards Strong technical problem-solving and project coordination abilities Preferred Software Experience Experience with one or more of the following is preferred: AutoCAD Mathcad
