Structural BIM Designer Job Description Expert Technical is hiring for a structural BIM designer for a leading precast concrete manufacturer with locations throughout the Southeastern U.S. Driven by a mission to support customers, create remarkable structures, and deliver never-before-seen solutions, Tindall relies on innovative design and engineering to build the future. This position will be located at the plant in Petersburg, VA.
DAY-TO-DAY
The Structural BIM Designer uses digital modeling tools to create, manage, and coordinate complex 3D precast models based on contract drawings, owner specs, or preliminary value-engineered designs. Serving as a project lead, this role manages communication, schedules, and cross-functional coordination.
Key responsibilities include:
- Serve as a project lead, managing timelines, project binders, and schedules. Conduct coordination meetings with architects, engineers, general contractors, and internal sales/estimating teams.
- Utilize Revit or SolidWorks to detail foundation plans, framing plans, elevation drawings, repair work orders, and erection drawings. Direct and review the work of 3D detailers/designers.
- Prepare long-lead item Bills of Materials (BOM), issue material orders to support project schedules, and manage the submittal process for erection drawings to obtain owner/GC approval.
- Manage RFIs, emails, and client conversations, ensuring clear written post- conversation follow-ups. Notify project management when scope changes impact change orders.
- Partner closely with Project Engineers, Engineering Managers, and Production Planning to sequence shop cards, resolve site constraints, and issue final "For Construction" drawing packages.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- 3+ years of structural BIM detailing/design experience.
- Hands-on proficiency in Revit or SolidWorks is required.
- Degree (Bachelor's or Associate) in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Construction, or a related discipline preferred. Training or certification in Autodesk Revit or SolidWorks is required.
- Ability to read and thoroughly understand contract drawings, engineering control drawings, and project specifications.
- Strong communication skills to manage client relationships, RFIs, and schedules. Ability to perform local job site visits during normal working hours using a company truck (valid driver's license required).
