Job Overview Join our UCG team as a Fiber Optic Technician and become a vital contributor to the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic communication systems. In this energetic role, you will work outdoors in various environments, utilizing your technical expertise to ensure reliable high-speed data transmission. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your career in fiber optics and telecommunications. Duties Install, splice, and test fiber optic drops and systems in outdoor and indoor environments, ensuring optimal performance. Operate equipment such as bucket trucks and power tools safely to access elevated or hard-to-reach areas during installation and maintenance tasks. Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to identify faults, verify signal integrity, and troubleshoot network issues efficiently. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides to accurately execute cable routing and system configurations. Perform telecommunications outside plant operations by laying cables along utility poles, underground conduits, or building pathways in compliance with safety standards. Conduct telecommunications cable splicing and network testing to ensure seamless connectivity within fiber optic networks. Adhere strictly to the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and other safety protocols during all outdoor work activities, including climbing towers or poles when necessary. Qualifications Proven experience in field service roles involving fiber optic systems installation or maintenance. Strong background in telecommunications outside plant operations, cabling, and network infrastructure setup. Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, telecommunication testing equipment, and diagnostic devices for troubleshooting. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams related to fiber optic networks and low voltage electrical systems. Experience operating equipment such as bucket trucks for outdoor installations. Knowledge of electrical safety standards including the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). Excellent outdoor work experience with climbing, working at heights, and handling outdoor environmental conditions. Familiarity with computer networking concepts such as LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, telephony systems, and IT infrastructure support. Construction experience related to telecommunications or electrical projects is highly desirable. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to perform engineering troubleshooting on fiber optic networks.
