Lightworks Fiber & Consulting is hiring Traveling Fiber Optic Technicians and Fiber Splicers to support fiber optic construction, installation, splicing, testing, maintenance, and repair projects across the United States. We are looking for both experienced fiber optic professionals and motivated entry-level candidates interested in building a career in telecommunications. Experience in fiber optics, telecommunications, broadband, utilities, construction, low-voltage work, underground construction, or outdoor field work is preferred but not required for all positions. This is a travel-based field position requiring regular travel to project locations. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors, performing physically demanding work, and staying away from home during project assignments. Fiber Optic Technician / Splicer Responsibilities Install, splice, terminate, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair fiber optic cable and telecommunications networks Perform or assist with fiber optic splicing, fusion splicing, fiber testing, troubleshooting, and restoration Use fiber optic testing equipment and tools as assigned, including OTDRs, power meters, fusion splicers, and related equipment Assist with fiber construction, cable installation, network builds, maintenance, and service restoration Read and interpret fiber maps, construction drawings, schematics, prints, and project plans Identify fiber routes, connections, splice locations, and network components Complete required splice documentation, test results, reports, and project updates Travel to telecommunications and fiber construction project sites throughout the region and country Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency outages and fiber restoration Safely operate and maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment Work outdoors in varying terrain, temperatures, and weather conditions Follow company safety policies, customer requirements, project specifications, and applicable industry standards Qualifications Valid U.S. driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record Willing and able to travel extensively for work, including overnight and regular air travel Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors Ability to work flexible schedules, including days, nights, weekends, overtime, and emergency response assignments Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a field crew Basic computer, tablet, and smartphone proficiency Ability to distinguish colors and read detailed labels, maps, prints, and documentation Ability to pass required pre-employment screening Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following is a plus: Fiber optic installation or construction Fiber optic splicing or fusion splicing OTDR and fiber optic testing Telecommunications or broadband construction Underground or aerial utility construction Low-voltage cabling Cable installation, pulling, or placement Utility or construction field work Fiber maintenance, troubleshooting, or outage restoration No fiber optic experience? Candidates with strong construction, utility, mechanical, technical, or outdoor work experience are encouraged to apply. Travel & Schedule This is a traveling position and may include local assignments as operational needs require. Employees may work at project locations throughout the United States.
