You'll work at the board and component level to diagnose failures, validate repairs against specification, and return drives to reliable service. This role is ideal for someone who is equally comfortable reading a schematic, probing a power stage under load, and documenting root cause. Key Responsibilities Perform incoming inspection and failure analysis on VFDs and motor-control assemblies returned for repair or warranty evaluation. Diagnose faults to the component level across power and control sections — rectifier/diode bridges, DC bus capacitors, IGBT/power modules, gate-drive circuitry, current/voltage sensing, control boards, and firmware/parameter issues. Repair or replace failed components using proper soldering and rework techniques, including surface-mount and through-hole work. Bench-test and commission repaired drives, including parameter setup, no-load and loaded run testing, and verification against OEM specifications. Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, LCR meters, insulation/megohm testers, and electronic loads to validate power stages, switching behavior, and protection circuits. Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, datasheets, and service manuals to support diagnosis and repair. Document findings, root cause, parts used, and test results clearly for internal records and customer-facing repair reports. Identify recurring failure modes and recommend design, sourcing, or process improvements. Maintain a safe, organized work area and follow electrical safety practices when working with stored energy and live equipment. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or higher in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent military/trade training - or comparable hands-on experience.
Working knowledge of VFD operation:
rectification, DC bus, inverter/IGBT switching, PWM, and common protection and fault conditions. Proficiency with standard test equipment (oscilloscope, DMM, LCR meter, insulation tester) and component-level diagnosis. Solid soldering and rework skills, including SMT. Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and datasheets. Strong written documentation and attention to detail. Experience with three-phase power, AC induction and PM motor control, and closed-loop drive systems.
