Entry-Level JobVerifiedNo experience needed

Job Description

We are a premier electrical contractor specializing in high-end residential electrical work and custom lighting design throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Our projects include architecturally significant homes, discerning homeowners, and collaborations with top architects, interior designers, and builders. We are looking for a Lighting Designer to join our team. We are open to both experienced lighting designers and candidates from adjacent design fields who are interested in specializing in residential lighting. If you have an eye for design and want to create beautiful, functional lighting for exceptional homes, we want to talk to you. This is primarily an in-office position in Novato, with regular visits to residential project sites throughout the Bay Area.
What You'll Do:
Design layered lighting plans (ambient, art, task, and accent) for luxury residential projects from concept through installation. Develop lighting plans, elevations, sections, fixture schedules, renderings, and other project documentation. Collaborate directly with architects, interior designers, homeowners, and our electrical field teams. Specify fixtures, controls, and smart lighting systems (Lutron, Vantage, etc.) appropriate for high-end finishes, project requirements, and budgets. Prepare visualizations and presentation materials to communicate design concepts to clients and project teams. Coordinate lighting design and documentation with project timelines and construction schedules. Walk job sites during rough-in and trim to help ensure design intent is executed correctly.
What We're Looking For:
Lighting design experience is preferred but not required. We strongly encourage candidates from architecture, interior design, lighting showrooms, or other related fields who are interested in transitioning into residential lighting design. Bachelor's or associate degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Understanding of architectural and construction documentation. Familiarity with residential construction methods and sequencing is a plus. Familiarity with design software such as Bluebeam, Revit, AutoCAD, or similar is a plus; willingness to learn is required. An eye for detail, aesthetics, and how light shapes a space. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop confidence in client-facing situations. Comfortable collaborating as part of a team while also working independently when needed. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage priorities across multiple projects. Portfolio or relevant work samples encouraged, but not required for candidates coming from an adjacent field.
Why Work With Us:
Steady pipeline of premier residential projects in one of the Bay Area's most desirable markets. Opportunity to work alongside leading architects, interior designers, builders, and craftspeople. Mentorship and hands-on training within an established, respected electrical contracting team. Compensation of $70,000-$100,000 annually, plus benefits , depending on experience. A real opportunity to build a career in residential lighting design - not just a job.
To Apply:
Please reply with your resume and, if available, a portfolio or work samples (PDF or link). If you're coming from architecture, interior design, a lighting fixture/showroom background, or another related field and don't have a formal lighting design portfolio, don't let that stop you from applying . Tell us about relevant projects you've worked on and how your experience could translate to lighting design.
