Job Description

FUNCTION
The Design & Fabrication Manager oversees the planning, direction, and coordination of activities in the areas of design, quoting, and fabrication needs for all projects.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years or more of demonstrated success in mechanical design and project quoting
  • 5+ years or more as fabrication manager
  • 5+ years of SolidWorks experience and EPDM
  • Communicate well through a variety of methods including phone calls, e-mail, and text messages
  • Prior management skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Read blueprints and schematic drawings
  • Operate a computer including strong experience with Microsoft Programs, quoting, and scheduling programs
  • Be self-motivated

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Hire and manage the design and fabrication staff
  • Confer with management, production, and other staff to discuss project specifications and procedures
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
  • Work with scheduling to manage the planning and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment
  • Direct, review, and approve product design and changes
  • Recruit employees: assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence
  • Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts, and direct the negotiation of research contracts
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department; ensure staff are trained
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services
  • Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates
  • Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to clients
  • Consult or negotiate with clients to prepare project specifications
  • Set scientific and technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management
  • Recommend, maintain, and use software for design and quoting
  • Collaborate with project leads on design and bids
  • Maintain shop and yard including contracting lawn care and snow removal
  • Maintain shop equipment scheduling regular service and maintenance as needed. Including all shop equipment, forklifts, skid loader and paint booth
  • Order welding supplies, DEF fluid and LP tanks to maintain proper stock levels
  • Review quoting needs with sales staff and assign work to design staff
  • Review shop drawings and assign work to shop staff to meet project timelines
  • Work with safety instructor to ensure OSHA compliance, the coordination of safety training for shop staff, and recordkeeping
  • Coordinate with engineering companies, project progress and prioritize their workload
  • Maintain steel inventory ordering as needed for stock and projects
  • Perform a variety of duties which may often change

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequent sitting and use of computer and phone systems
  • Occasional need to climb and maintain body balance on ladders, scaffolding, or other high structures
  • Occasional driving
Job Type:
Full-time Pay:
Up to $100,000.00 per year
