Last year we bought our largest customer. After 25 years as a sheet metal job shop, we're now a contract manufacturer with an OEM growing up inside it — running both at once, on processes and equipment that were only ever designed for one of them. A lot of what we do works because our team makes it work, not because the system makes it work. Fixing that is the job. I'm currently the Director of Technical Services, and I'm moving to Operations. I'm handing off the engineering side: five to seven process engineers, the CapEx project portfolio, tooling and fixturing, and the work of building real process control and continual improvement into a developing hybrid environment. You'd report directly to me and carry your own project load alongside the team you manage. Two years from now, I want to look at an engineering group that finds the problems before I do, gets projects funded and commissioned without me in the room, and holds its own dates and performance standards. That's the mandate. How you get there is largely ours to design together. It matters less to me what company or school you came from. I care much more about whether you can tell me success stories from when you:
Walked a floor, found the problem nobody flagged, built the case, and got it funded.
Told ownership they were wrong about something, and convinced them.
Planned for the specific way a project would fail, and were ready when it did.
Held an engineer to a target they didn't want to commit to, achieved it, and kept the relationship intact afterward.
Brought a technology into a company that wasn't looking for it, and won fans in the process.

Director of Technical Services Manufacturing Engineering Manager Summary:
Leads the manufacturing engineering function. This is a combination leadership/technical position. Leadership efforts are focused on building, directing, and holding accountable a process engineering team capable of identifying and executing high-value improvement work with minimal direction. Technical efforts are focused on building and sustaining process control, process capability, and continual improvement across the production system, and on personally carrying a share of the project load. The position is further responsible for the forward pipeline: maintaining active awareness of new technologies, methods, and equipment available in the marketplace, and leading the evaluation, selection, onboarding, and production integration of new equipment, processes, and systems. Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Leads, develops, and holds accountable the process engineering team to execute approved projects on committed dates and to a high technical standard.
2. Actively participates in the capital equipment project portfolio from justification and selection through installation, commissioning, and validated production system release.
3. Establishes and maintains process control and process capability across the production system, including process standards, defined operating parameters, and ongoing measurement of process performance.
4. Directs tooling and fixturing strategy, design, procurement, and lifecycle management to meet quality, changeover, and throughput objectives.
5. Identifies improvement opportunities others have not recognized, builds the business case, secures approval, and drives the work to measurable completion.
6. Carries a personal project load in addition to managing the department. Time split target of 60% leadership and team development, 40% direct technical and project execution - (ratio to scale appropriate with team growth)
7. Anticipates the needs and expectations of other departments as internal customers, working closely with their leaders to address those needs before they become requests, and communicating status and constraints without being asked.
8. Serves as the company's conduit for new manufacturing technology, methods, and equipment, maintaining active awareness of the market and bringing qualified opportunities forward.
9. Anticipates and documents the specific failure modes of significant projects and process changes, and implements countermeasures before launch.
10. Leads engineering and affected production teams through changes to how they work, ensuring changes are trained, adopted in practice, and verified after implementation.
11. Communicates status, risk, and results proactively and concisely to leadership, peers and other interested participants, escalating problems early rather than late.
12. Establishes and reports engineering department metrics against defined targets, including project completion, scrap and rework reduction, capacity gained, and cost avoided.
13. Coaches, develops, and mentors the engineering team through defined growth plans, regular one-on-one feedback, and progressive assignment of responsibility.
14. Actively coaches, develops, and mentors employees outside the engineering department, contributing to the technical and professional growth of the broader organization as a normal part of their work.
15. Actively maintains relationships with outside vendors, equipment manufacturers, integrators, and consultants as needed to execute company objectives.

Maintains an organized and clean department and active work areas. 17. Responsible for absolute compliance with and promotion of company safety and PPE requirements. 18. Strives to assume the company's commitments and fulfills them with a sense of pride and urgency.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises 5-7 employees in the Manufacturing Engineering Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, and five or more years of manufacturing engineering experience including leading people; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Precision sheet metal experience preferred, not required.

Pay:
$110,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
