Job Summary Position Description & Qualifications The Human Systems Integration (HSI) Engineer serves as the technical authority for integrating human considerations into the acquisition, design, development, testing, fielding, sustainment, and modernization of Navy systems. The incumbent ensures that systems are designed to optimize total system performance by balancing human capabilities and limitations with hardware, software, training, facilities, and operational requirements. Must be able to obtain/transfer/maintain a U.S. Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance. This is a Remote Opportunity role. The HSI Engineer applies systems engineering principles and Department of Defense (DoD) HSI policies to improve warfighter effectiveness, safety, survivability, mission performance, and lifecycle affordability. The position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams, program managers, fleet stakeholders, and external government and industry partners to ensure HSI requirements are incorporated throughout the system lifecycle. In this role, you will: Serve as the program's technical expert for Human Systems Integration (HSI) activities throughout the acquisition lifecycle. Develop, implement, and evaluate HSI strategies, plans, analyses, and technical recommendations in accordance with DoD and Department of the Navy guidance. Integrate HSI considerations into systems engineering processes, including requirements development, architecture, design reviews, risk management, verification, validation, and testing. Conduct Human Factors Engineering (HFE) analyses to evaluate human performance, workload, situational awareness, usability, accessibility, maintainability, and operator safety. Assess impacts across the seven HSI domains: Human Factors Engineering Personnel Training Safety and Occupational Health Habitability Survivability Manpower Develop HSI requirements, performance measures, and verification criteria for acquisition documentation, including capability documents, specifications, systems engineering plans, and test plans. Participate in technical reviews including System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), and operational assessments. Evaluate contractor designs, technical data packages, analyses, and test results to verify compliance with HSI requirements. Coordinate with systems engineers, software engineers, logisticians, cybersecurity personnel, test organizations, fleet representatives, and program management offices to resolve technical issues affecting human performance. Perform trade studies balancing mission effectiveness, lifecycle cost, technical risk, manpower requirements, training burden, and operational readiness. Support developmental testing, operational testing, usability evaluations, simulations, and field assessments. Identify HSI-related technical risks and recommend mitigation strategies. Prepare technical reports, engineering analyses, briefings, and recommendations for senior leadership. Support configuration management, engineering change proposals, and system modernization efforts. Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, digital engineering methods, modeling and simulation tools, and evolving HSI best practices.
