SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Electronics Hardware Engineer to lead and support the design, development, validation, and lifecycle management of electronic hardware products. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who thrives in both new product development and current product maintenance, balancing innovation with continuous improvement of existing product lines.
The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and customer support teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and manufacturable electronic solutions. This position requires a strong technical foundation, excellent problem-solving skills, hands-on experience performing circuit board modifications and using test equipment, and the ability to drive projects from concept and development through production and ongoing maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):
New Product Development
Design complex electronic hardware circuits including analog, digital, mixed-signal and power electronics for electronic motor controllers and thermal management controllers.
Create schematics, component selections, PCB layouts, and design documentation.
Define system requirements and translate customer and market needs into technical solutions.
Perform hardware simulations, calculations, and tolerance analyses.
Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities to proactively identify and mitigate product and design risks.
Develop prototypes and conduct design verification and validation testing using laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, digital multimeters and other electronic test equipment.
Perform hands-on hardware debugging, circuit modifications, and prototype rework, including component-level soldering and troubleshooting.
Collaborate with firmware and software engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
Support EMC/EMI, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance activities.
Participate in design reviews and provide technical leadership throughout the product development process.
Drive designs for manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and cost optimization.
Existing Product Support
Provide technical ownership for released products throughout their lifecycle.
Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve field and production issues.
Analyze component obsolescence risks and identify suitable replacement components.
Implement product improvements, cost-reduction initiatives, and reliability enhancements.
Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities for quality and customer issues.
Provide hands-on support for debugging and failure analysis at both the circuit and system levels.
Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to address production challenges.
Develop test plans and support manufacturing test improvements.
Maintain product documentation, including schematics, BOMs, specifications, and support records.
Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across engineering teams.
Participate in project planning, risk assessments, and technical decision-making.
Develop and execute project plans while managing technical risks and ensuring adherence to project timelines, deliverables, and milestones.
Interface with customers, suppliers, and external design partners as needed.
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards, and best practices.
Education and/or Experience Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience. Automotive or off-highway production electronics experience preferred.
