Job Description -
EHS Engineer Position Summary:
The EHS Engineer is responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs at Porton J-Star Research. This role ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, supports daily safety operations, conducts inspections, provides employee training, and promotes a strong safety culture across the organization. The ideal candidate should have experience in laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or chemical manufacturing environments, with knowledge of OSHA requirements, hazardous waste management, chemical safety, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:

  • Support EHS compliance programs over multiple sites to ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, NJDEP, RCRA, Right-to-Know, hazardous waste, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, records, permits, training files, and compliance reports.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of laboratories, identify hazards and support corrective actions.
  • Support regulatory inspections, customer audits, and internal EHS audits by preparing required documentation and coordinating follow-up actions.
  • Manage hazardous waste activities, including waste accumulation, labeling, storage, documentation, and disposal processes.
  • Conduct employee training, including laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, hazardous waste management, and HPAPI safety.
  • Support incident investigations, emergency response activities, and prepare incident reports.
  • Perform safety risk assessments and support process safety evaluations for new and ongoing projects.
  • Work closely with Facilities, Operations, R&D, and Corporate EHS teams to maintain and improve site safety performance.
  • perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of EHS experience in pharmaceutical, chemical laboratory, biotechnology, or related regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazardous waste management, chemical safety, and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting EHS audits, inspections, training programs, and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in CDMO, CRO, pharmaceutical, or HPAPI laboratory environments.
  • Experience with
EPA, NJDEP, OSHA
regulatory requirements.
  • Relevant EHS certifications (OSHA, CHMM, CSP, CIH, etc.
) are a plus.
