This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level technician or someone with 1-3 years of experience who enjoys designing, building, and solving mechanical problems. The successful candidate will support engineers in the design and fabrication of custom tooling, fixtures, and molds used for research, testing, and prototype development. This position combines CAD design, additive manufacturing, hands-on fabrication, and laboratory support. Primary Responsibilities Create and modify 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for tooling, fixtures, molds, and engineering projects. Design, build, and refine custom fill molds using additive manufacturing (FDM 3D printing). Prepare CAD files for manufacturing, including exporting print-ready models and engineering drawings. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot both small-format and large-format 3D printers. Understand basic additive manufacturing concepts including material selection, print orientation, support generation, and post-processing. Assemble, modify, and test mechanical components and prototype assemblies. Assist engineers with prototype development, mechanical testing, data collection, and documentation. Perform basic shop tasks including drilling, cutting, tapping, light machining, sanding, and assembly. Maintain engineering documentation, drawings, and revision control. Support laboratory setup, equipment maintenance, calibration, and organization. Procure engineering materials and maintain inventory of supplies and printing materials. Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. Requirements Associate degree in Mechanical/ Structural Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Additive Manufacturing Technology, or other related technical field. Entry level to three (3) years of experience in a mechanical engineering, manufacturing, prototype, fabrication, or engineering support role. Experience creating 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models. Basic understanding of mechanical drawings, dimensions, and tolerances. Basic understanding of 3D printing/additive manufacturing processes. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to design, build, troubleshoot, and assemble mechanical components. Comfortable working with hand and power tools. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually and 100 pounds with assistance. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. Desired Skills Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, or AutoCAD. Experience operating
FDM/FFF 3D
printers, including both desktop and large-format systems. Familiarity with common printing materials such as PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, Nylon, TPU, or carbon fiber reinforced materials. Experience designing parts specifically for additive manufacturing. Basic machining experience including drill press, band saw, belt sander, milling machine, or lathe. Experience with rapid prototyping and prototype development. Familiarity with engineering documentation and revision control. Experience supporting engineering projects in a laboratory or manufacturing environment. Experience supporting DoD, US Navy, or US Marine Corps programs is a plus.
