SUMMARY:
Subject matter expert on wire harness assemblies responsible for developing, improving and supporting manufacturing process. This position works closely with design engineering, production, quality, supply chain and inspection teams to ensure harnesses are manufactured efficiently, consistently and in accordance with aerospace, customer and regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Develop, document, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for aerospace wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electrical interconnect assemblies. Translate engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and customer requirements into practical manufacturing processes. Develop and maintain process routings, work instructions, manufacturing travelers, bills of material, and standard work documentation. Design and develop manufacturing tooling, fixtures, templates, test equipment, and assembly aids. Support new product introduction (NPI), including manufacturing readiness, producibility reviews, prototype builds, first articles, and production launch. Provide hands-on technical support to production personnel and troubleshoot assembly, crimping, soldering, routing, termination, and electrical test issues. Establish and optimize manufacturing processes for wire cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, splicing, termination, connector assembly, labeling, shielding, and harness routing. Assist with estimating and quoting activities. Conduct process capability studies, time studies, line balancing, and continuous-improvement activities. Identify opportunities to improve yield, cycle time, labor efficiency, quality and overall manufacturing cost. Investigate manufacturing defects and support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions. Evaluate and implement appropriate production equipment, tooling, materials and manufacturing technologies. Participate in PFMEA, control plans, risk assessments, process validation and production readiness reviews. Provide technical guidance and training to manufacturing and assembly personnel. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Strong knowledge of aerospace wire harness and cable assembly processes Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, work instructions, and bills of material. Knowledge of crimp specifications, soldering, tooling, wire identification and connector systems. Familiarity with aerospace workmanship standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001 and applicable customer specifications. Understanding of ESD controls and electrostatic-sensitive components. Exposure to RF cable requirements, testing and methods of manufacture. Experience developing manufacturing documentation and standardized work instructions. Familiarity with AS9100, configuration control, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement. Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production tracking preferred.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field. Three to five years of manufacturing engineering experience involving wire harnesses or electrical assemblies. Technical aptitude to understand the equipment, processes and blueprints.
SALARY RANGE
$60,000 - $110,000 depending upon knowledge and experience
