Join our engineering team to shape the appearance, ergonomics, and physical experience of robotic hands and humanoid systems. You will develop concepts, create surface models, and build prototypes while working closely with mechanical engineers to bring designs into functional hardware.
Requirements:
Pursuing a BS or MS in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A portfolio demonstrating design development, surface modeling, and 3D visualization. Familiarity with surfacing in Siemens NX, Autodesk Fusion 360, or Rhino. Proficiency in Blender for 3D modeling, rendering, and design visualization. Strong understanding of form, proportion, ergonomics, and surface quality. Ability to translate sketches and design concepts into 3D geometry. Hands-on experience creating physical models or prototypes. Strong communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional hardware team. (+) Experience designing robotics, consumer electronics, wearables, or other physical products. (+) Understanding of surface continuity and curvature analysis. (+) Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, and additive manufacturing. (+) Experience with color, material, and finish development. (+) Exposure to electromechanical integration and designing around moving mechanisms. (+) Experience taking a design from concept to a functional prototype.

Career Growth:
Strong potential for full-time conversion after the internship. Develop industrial design concepts through sketches, 3D models, renderings, and physical prototypes. Create surface models for robotic hands, humanoid systems, exterior housings, and related components. Refine proportions, curvature, and surface transitions to create cohesive product designs. Collaborate with mechanical engineers to integrate exterior surfaces with internal structures, actuators, sensors, and assembly requirements. Use Blender to model, render, and communicate design concepts. Explore color, material, and finish options. Build and evaluate prototypes to assess appearance, ergonomics, fit, and functionality. Iterate on designs based on feedback, testing, and manufacturing constraints. A portfolio is required for consideration. Include examples of surface modeling, Blender work, and product design, highlighting your individual contributions, design process, and final outcomes. Academic and personal projects are welcome. A Proception employee will reach out directly to schedule additional interviews.
