Potterman Hollow

Design Engineer-Timber Frame Design-Build

Job Description

Design Engineer - Join Potterman Hollow Idaho Falls, ID Full-time Potterman Hollow, a design-build timber framing company, starts with a vision and turns it into a standing structure that will still be admired 20 years from now. If you want your design work to end up somewhere real, instead of just a rendering, this is for you.
Things that matter to us:
  • We honor the entire process, not just the easy parts. No shortcuts or "later."
  • Client experience matters and our commitment to craftsmanship is top shelf.
  • We own the finish, not just the concept. If a drawing goes to the shop incomplete or unclear, it's ours to fix and learn from. Day-to-day, as a Design Engineer, you'll:
  • Work face-to-face with clients alongside our Project Coordinator
  • Build and iterate the 3D model that carries a project from concept to shop drawing. Even if you aren't the person doing the fab, we want you to be just as excited to see the finished project get installed.
  • Own the quality and clarity of what the shop and install crew receive. This isn't a "finish the drawing, hand-it-off and never speak of it again" kind of job. You'll be involved, included, and counted-on from start to finish. This won't intimidate the right person; they'll be excited to see their designs come to life.
  • Build a real, working sense of construction costs so your designs are realistic from the start.
  • Contribute to related roles in a small business environment such as help solve simpler I/T issues or help with social media presence, etc.
Your first year:
  • You'll spend some time during your first 6 months in the shop and on the job site, not because your CAD skills are lacking, but because understanding how everything works together is what makes your drawings trustworthy for the people using them. We're looking for someone who:
  • Has at least 2 years of professional design experience and real hands-on CAD time
  • Has some construction exposure and experience. Having built something with your hands is a genuine plus here.
  • Knows Vectorworks and MacOS (our platforms) or is confident picking up a new environment quickly.
  • Is not intimidated by a steep learning curve
  • Turns concepts into something buildable, and then stays with it through the shop drawings, fabrication, and installation.
Someone who cares about the project from start to finish
