Project Engineer

Job Description

The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of custom plastics molding projects from concept through production. This role collaborates with customers, tooling suppliers, production, and quality teams to ensure new and existing products are launched on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical and quality requirements. The Project Engineer plays a key role in continuous improvement, process optimization, and troubleshooting within a molding environment after project launch as well. Project Management & Execution Lead engineering aspects of new product introduction (NPI), from design review through production approval. Engineering & Technical Support Review customer specifications, part drawings, and material requirements for manufacturability. Support mold design reviews (DFM) and process development activities. Establish and validate molding processes, including trials, sampling, and capability studies. Troubleshoot molding, tooling, and processing issues to ensure consistent quality and uptime. Manufacturing & Process Improvement Collaborate with production to optimize cycle times, scrap reduction, and overall efficiency. Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions and setup sheets. Quality & Compliance Support PPAP, FAI, and customer qualification requirements. Assist with root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). Ensure compliance with internal quality systems, customer standards, and safety requirements. Customer & Supplier Collaboration Serve as a technical point of contact for customers during project execution. Coordinate with suppliers on tooling, materials, and external processes. Participate in customer meetings, audits, and technical reviews as required. Manage project timelines, technical deliverables, and cross‑functional communication. Coordinate tooling design, build, validation, and modifications with tool makers and internal teams. Track project costs, risks, and changes; support corrective actions as needed. Education Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Experience 2-5+ years of experience in a molding or fabrication manufacturing environment. Experience with custom molding and/or fabrication of plastics or metals is strongly preferred. Technical Skills Knowledge of molding or fabrication processes, materials, and tooling. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Familiarity with DFM, PFMEA, process validation, and statistical methods. Proficiency with CAD software and standard engineering tools. Strong Excel and ERP/MRP system skills preferred. Core Competencies Strong project management and organizational skills. Effective written and verbal communication. Hands‑on problem solving and troubleshooting ability. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Collaborative, team‑oriented mindset with a customer focus.
Pay:
$95,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
