Job Description

Mechanical Project Engineer Design. Manage. Build. See Your Work Come to Life. Reichard Industries is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our engineering team. This position combines mechanical design with project management, allowing you to take ownership of custom heavy industrial equipment from concept through manufacturing. Unlike many engineering positions where designs are handed off to production, our engineers work closely with customers, manufacturing, and vendors throughout the entire project. You'll have the opportunity to see the equipment you design being fabricated in our shop and ultimately placed into service in steel mills throughout North America. What You'll Do As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will manage multiple custom equipment projects simultaneously while serving as the primary engineering contact throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities include:
Meet with customers to review project scope and participate in project kick-off meetings. Design custom heavy industrial equipment and develop practical engineering solutions. Perform engineering calculations and equipment design. Create detailed fabrication drawings using AutoCAD Mechanical and Autodesk Inventor. Coordinate with purchasing and outside vendors to obtain quotations and procure materials. Monitor project schedules and vendor performance to ensure on-time delivery. Support manufacturing by answering technical questions and resolving design issues. Process engineering changes and update drawings as project requirements evolve. Participate in design reviews and continuously improve engineering standards. Occasionally travel to customer facilities for field measurements, project meetings, or technical support. Types of Equipment You'll Design Our engineers design custom equipment for the steel industry, including: Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Ladles Ladle handling equipment (Hooks and lifting beams) Scrap buckets Charging equipment Custom fabricated steel structures Material handling equipment Maintenance platforms Every project is unique, providing new engineering challenges and opportunities to develop innovative solutions. Qualifications Required Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology Proficiency with AutoCAD Mechanical Experience using Autodesk Inventor Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook) Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills Preferred Experience in equipment design or heavy industrial manufacturing Experience with steel mill equipment or related industries Familiarity with fabrication and welding practices Internship or professional experience in mechanical design The Ideal Candidate We're looking for someone who: Enjoys solving practical engineering problems.
