AK&J Electric is a UL-listed manufacturer of low- and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, and industrial control panels, based in Kingston, TN. We design and build power distribution equipment for industrial, commercial, and utility customers across the Southeast, and we back it with in-house testing, commissioning, and field service. We're growing our engineering team and looking for an experienced drafter who can turn engineering intent into clean, buildable, manufacturing-ready drawings. What You'll Do Produce electrical and mechanical drawings in
AutoCAD:
single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematic/wiring diagrams, panel schedules, and control diagrams Draft switchgear and enclosure layouts, front elevations, section views, and general arrangement drawings Develop nameplate schedules, bus and cable schedules, and bill-of-material takeoffs from engineering markups Convert customer specs, sketches, and redlines into approval and record drawings Revise and maintain drawings through submittal, approval, and as-built stages with clean revision control Coordinate with project engineers, the manufacturing floor, and purchasing to keep drawings accurate and current Maintain drawing standards, title blocks, blocks/libraries, and layer conventions What You Need 3-5 years of AutoCAD drafting experience in the electrical and mechanical industry (switchgear, control panels, power distribution, or similar equipment strongly preferred) Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D); AutoCAD Electrical and 3D/Inventor experience a plus Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical fabrication drawings Working knowledge of NEC, UL, and
ANSI/IEEE
standards as they apply to switchgear and control equipment Strong attention to detail and disciplined revision/document control habits Ability to manage multiple projects and hit submittal deadlines High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or drafting/CAD certificate preferred Nice to Have Experience drafting to
UL 891 / UL 1558
