Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Technician / Trainee Marcegaglia Stainless - Richburg, SC Position Summary Marcegaglia Stainless is seeking a dependable and motivated Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Technician to join our in-house NDT department. This position is responsible for performing automated immersion ultrasonic inspection of stainless steel bar products using Tac-Tic inspection equipment. Candidates with previous NDT/UT experience are encouraged to apply; however, we are also willing to train the right candidate from Trainee through Level I and Level II certification. This is a hands-on production and quality position requiring strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, reliability, and the ability to maintain focus while operating inspection equipment throughout the shift. Primary Responsibilities Operate automated Tac-Tic ultrasonic inspection equipment. Set up inspection equipment for different material sizes, specifications, and customer requirements. Perform equipment calibrations and system checks using applicable reference standards. Monitor ultrasonic A-scan displays, strip charts, alarms, and inspection data throughout testing. Evaluate ultrasonic indications in accordance with applicable procedures, specifications, and acceptance criteria. Identify and properly segregate nonconforming material. Complete inspection records and maintain material traceability. Load, unload, and properly handle stainless steel bar material. Perform routine equipment checks and assist with troubleshooting when necessary. Maintain an organized and safe work area. Follow established work instructions, NDT procedures, customer specifications, and quality requirements. Work closely with UT Level II and Level III personnel during training and certification. Support production requirements including occasional overtime and weekend work. Qualifications Entry-Level / Trainee High school diploma or equivalent. Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn. Ability to follow detailed written procedures and instructions. Basic computer skills. Strong attention to detail. Dependable attendance and work ethic. Comfortable working independently for extended periods. Previous manufacturing, mechanical, quality, inspection, machining, electrical, or technical experience is preferred but not required. Experienced NDT Candidates Previous Level I or Level II UT experience is preferred. Candidates with experience in other NDT methods such as MT, PT, ET, RT, or VT will also be considered. Previous certifications and training records will be reviewed to determine eligibility for certification under Marcegaglia's Written Practice. Work Environment This position operates within a manufacturing environment and requires the technician to spend the majority of the shift at a dedicated ultrasonic inspection station. The technician must be comfortable standing and/or sitting for extended periods while maintaining concentration on equipment operation and inspection results. Some production runs may involve inspecting similar material for several hours at a time. The position requires a combination of technical ability, patience, consistency, and attention to detail. Schedule Second shift availability is preferred. Current second shift schedule is primarily Monday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday work may be required depending on production demand. Occasional overtime is required. Training & Career Development Marcegaglia provides a structured development path within the Ultrasonic Testing department: UT Trainee → UT Level I → UT Level II Training includes classroom instruction, hands-on equipment training, documented on-the-job experience, examinations, and certification in accordance with Marcegaglia's NDT Written Practice. Employees will receive hands-on training in: Ultrasonic testing principles Equipment setup and operation Calibration techniques Straight-beam and shear-wave inspection Ultrasonic signal interpretation Reference standards Customer specifications Acceptance/rejection criteria Inspection documentation and traceability Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, capable of learning technical concepts, comfortable working independently, and interested in developing a long-term career in Non-Destructive Testing.
