City of Industry Position Summary We are seeking an Electrical Power Systems Engineer to design, engineer, and support the manufacture of low-voltage electrical distribution equipment, with a primary focus on UL 891 switchboards and associated power distribution systems . This position is responsible for converting project requirements, electrical drawings, specifications, and utility requirements into manufacturable switchboard designs. The engineer will work closely with customers, consulting engineers, project management, purchasing, CAD/design, and manufacturing teams throughout the entire project lifecycle—from initial design and submittal through production, testing, and shipment. The ideal candidate understands low-voltage power distribution systems and is comfortable working with switchboards, circuit breakers, bussing, metering, protection systems, fault-current requirements, and electrical single-line diagrams. Key ResponsibilitiesSwitchboard & Power Distribution Design Design low-voltage switchboards and electrical distribution equipment for commercial, multifamily, industrial, and mission-critical applications. Develop equipment configurations based on electrical single-line diagrams, specifications, schedules, and customer requirements.
Determine appropriate:
Main and feeder breaker sizes Breaker frame and trip ratings Bus ratings Section bus requirements Horizontal/supply bus requirements Neutral bus ratings Ground bus requirements Short-circuit ratings Metering requirements Ground-fault protection Surge protection Control power requirements Engineer equipment for common voltage systems including: 208Y/120V 480Y/277V 600V systems where applicable Design switchboards ranging from small distribution systems through 4,000A+ service equipment . Electrical System Analysis Review electrical load calculations and equipment schedules. Evaluate available fault current and required equipment
SCCR/AIC
ratings. Verify interrupting ratings of circuit breakers and other protective devices.
Assist with coordination of:
Main breakers Feeder breakers Fuses Ground-fault protection Electronic trip units Understand and apply LSIG, LSI, LI, and other protection schemes. Review transformer primary and secondary distribution requirements. Assist with selective coordination and protective-device settings when required. Review PV, generator, ATS, UPS, and other source connections into switchboard systems. UL & Code Compliance Design equipment in accordance with applicable requirements including: UL 891 - Switchboards
NEC / NFPA 70 UL 489
circuit breaker requirements UL 1066 / power circuit breakers where applicable Utility service requirements Local electrical codes and amendments Project specifications Manufacturer component requirements Ensure designs remain within the company's approved UL construction and listing procedures .
