The utility locator marks the location of underground utilities for construction activities requiring excavation. Work requires pinpointing paths of fiber, cables, pipes, and other conduits that carry utilities underground.
Locates water lines, sewer lines, electrical distribution system, primary and secondary, and fiber lines; updates SC 811 program-related records using their electronic process. Communication with City departments and personnel with up-to-date utilities in services and changes that need updated or corrected on maps/plats. Communicates with consumers/citizens in regard to utility locates needed from contractors or homeowners.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Minimum Education, Certifications, and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. At least one to two years of related utility locating experience. SC driver's license.

Work Schedule and Overtime:
Monday - Thursday typical hours are 7 am - 5 pm. Available to work as needed for response to emergencies or support utility staff, as needed.
Physical Demands/Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting and driving a vehicle. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, climb, and balance. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Performs other duties as needed.
