Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Survey Party Chief to lead field surveying teams in conducting land and construction surveys with precision and efficiency. As a vital member of our surveying department, you will oversee survey operations, operate advanced surveying equipment, and ensure accurate data collection for various projects. Your leadership will drive the successful completion of topographic, boundary, ALTA (American Land Title Association), and construction layout surveys, supporting our commitment to delivering high-quality results. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects while utilizing cutting-edge technology and fostering team collaboration. Responsibilities Lead survey crews in performing land surveying activities, including construction staking, topographic surveys, and boundary delineations. Operate and maintain surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS systems (including Trimble GNSS), 3D scanners, LiDAR devices, and hand tools to collect accurate field data. Conduct utility locating to identify underground infrastructure using specialized tools and techniques to prevent project delays or hazards. Prepare detailed sketches, schematics, and CAD drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, and other CAD software to document survey findings. Perform data analysis and quality checks on collected data to ensure accuracy before transferring it into GIS platforms like ArcGIS. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to interpret legal descriptions, schematics, and construction plans for precise surveying execution. Supervise safety protocols during field operations and ensure compliance with all safety standards while handling heavy lifting or operating heavy equipment. Requirements Proven experience in land surveying with a strong understanding of survey methods such as total station surveying, GPS surveying, construction layout surveys, ALTA surveys, and topographic mapping. Proficiency in operating surveying equipment including total stations, GPS/GNSS systems (e.g., Trimble), 3D scanners, LiDAR technology, levels, and hand tools. Solid knowledge of math concepts such as trigonometry, algebra, geometry, and their applications in land surveying calculations. Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D), GIS platforms (ArcGIS), Revit, MicroStation, Carlson software suite, and Schematics drafting. Ability to interpret legal land descriptions and create accurate construction staking plans based on schematics or drawings. Strong data collection skills combined with analytical abilities for data analysis and quality assurance. Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and clients effectively. Physical capability for fieldwork involving heavy lifting and prolonged periods of standing or walking in various terrains.
