full-time Position Summary Kömmerling USA is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to support and strengthen our manufacturing cost accounting processes at our Huntsville, Alabama facility. This position will report to the Accounting Manager and CFO and will be responsible for maintaining and analyzing accurate product costs, inventory values, Bills of Material (BOMs), production routings, standard costs, and moving average prices. The Cost Accountant will work closely with Accounting, Production, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure accurate manufacturing and inventory data, analyze cost variances, identify discrepancies, and provide meaningful cost and profitability information to management. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, hands-on, and comfortable working directly with manufacturing and financial data in an ERP environment. Key Responsibilities Maintain and review Bills of Material (BOMs) to ensure material quantities, components, and costing information are accurate. Maintain and review production routings , including labor and machine operations. Calculate, maintain, and analyze standard costs for manufactured products. Review and monitor moving average prices for purchased materials and inventory. Perform periodic standard cost updates and cost rollups . Analyze material, labor, overhead, and production cost variances and investigate significant deviations. Review inventory costing and investigate unusual or incorrect inventory values. Analyze raw material, work-in-process (WIP), finished goods, and trading stock inventory . Monitor manufacturing transactions and their impact on inventory, cost of goods sold, and product margins. Work closely with Production, Purchasing, and Operations to identify and correct costing, inventory, or master-data issues . Support physical inventory counts, cycle counts, inventory reconciliations, and year-end inventory procedures. Prepare and analyze product costs, margins, and profitability to support management decision-making. Support new product costing and evaluate the cost impact of changes to materials, processes, routings, or production methods. Assist with inventory and cost-of-goods-sold reconciliations as part of the month-end closing process. Prepare cost-related journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules. Analyze manufacturing and inventory accounts for unusual transactions, balances, or variances. Support monthly financial reporting related to manufacturing costs, inventory, margins, and cost of goods sold. Support year-end closing and external audit requests related to inventory and cost accounting. Continuously identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes, data accuracy, and cost transparency . Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration , or a related field preferred. 2-5 years of accounting experience , preferably with a focus on manufacturing or cost accounting. Manufacturing accounting or cost accounting experience strongly preferred. Experience with Bills of Material, production routings, inventory costing, standard costing, and cost variance analysis preferred. Strong understanding of manufacturing cost components, including material, labor, and overhead . Experience with inventory accounting and cost-of-goods-sold reconciliation. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. ERP system experience required; SAP experience strongly preferred . Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and work with operational departments to implement solutions. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet month-end deadlines. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with Accounting, Production, Purchasing, and Operations. Key Characteristics for Success The successful candidate will be hands-on, analytical, and proactive , with a strong understanding of how manufacturing transactions flow through an ERP system and ultimately impact inventory, cost of goods sold, product margins, and the financial statements. This position requires someone who is comfortable investigating discrepancies, identifying root causes, and working directly with operational departments to improve the accuracy of manufacturing and financial data. The ideal candidate will not only maintain cost information but also use it to identify trends, explain variances, and provide management with greater transparency into product costs, inventory, and profitability .
