Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, is a group of student housing professionals focused exclusively on the management of housing communities owned by non-profits and/or highly affiliated with a university.
Summary:
The position will join an existing team of six financial reporting accountants. The financial reporting accountant applies cash and accrual accounting principles to prepare, analyze, maintain, and deliver complete and accurate financial reports for a portfolio of student housing properties. Tasks include regulatory reports as well as other internal and external reports.
Major Accountabilities:
Prepare monthly and annual GAAP based financial statements. Provide guidance and advice to other departments in response to questions relating to accounting treatment or reporting of certain issues, as necessary. Review transactions and provide accounting support. Prepare general ledger reconciliations. Monitor budget to actual variances monthly. Provide in-depth assistance with accounting and reporting related research projects. Support site management staff and others who have varying levels of financial knowledge. Provide monthly and year-end reconciliations and closing for assigned sites. Assist in coordination for and support of third-party auditors. Maintain fixed asset ledgers and depreciation calculations. Analyze and interpret operating and financial information regarding profitability, capital expenditures, and performance against budget. Skills/Knowledge:
Requires knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regulations including an advanced knowledge of financial terms and principles to include accounting methods (cash, accrual, and full GAAP). Certified Public Accountant strongly preferred. Three to five years of applicable accounting and/or auditing experience with an accounting firm, financial institution or industry required. Ability to research, analyze, and resolve accounting related issues and problems. Working knowledge of automated accounting systems from data entry through output analysis and financial report generation. Able to proficiently operate PC-based software programs and/or automated database systems (primarily Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications and tools). Ability to independently prioritize workload to ensure that deadlines and schedules are satisfied and to work accurately and effectively in a self-motivated environment. Ability to gather, organize, analyze, and report large volumes of financial data with speed and accuracy. Excellent presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
