Accountant/Senior Accountant
Job Description
Job Overview Join our team to help preserve and strengthen housing programs in Santa Cruz County! We are seeking an experienced, meticulous, and highly motivated accounting professional to join our high-performing Housing Authority in the role of Accountant or Senior Accountant, depending on experience.
DEFINITION/PURPOSE
Senior Accountant:
Perform advanced professional accounting work involving complex governmental and fund accounting functions. Independently perform the most difficult and complex accounting assignments; prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and regulatory reports; support audits, budgets, forecasts, and long-range projections; monitor funds, investments, and program accounting; research and interpret GASB, HUD, and other applicable accounting requirements; and provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to accounting staff.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GUIDELINES
Any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge and abilities could be qualifying, as determined by the Authority. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and acquire the abilities would be:
•Five years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, including governmental or fund accounting. Experience leading complex accounting functions or projects is highly desirable.
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration with an accounting concentration, Finance, or a closely related field. CPA designation is desirable but not required.
Accountant:
Perform technical and professional accounting work in establishing and maintaining fiscal records. Maintain general ledgers; audit and analyze accounts; review Housing Choice Voucher and Housing Assistance Payment transactions; monitor investments, funds, and inter-fund activity; prepare monthly financial statements and year-end working papers; and assist with budgets, fiscal analyses, reports, and future projections.

•Two years of general accounting experience. Background experience fund or governmental accounting is desirable. Education
•A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting or business administration, with an accounting concentration, or closely related field, including at least 15 semester units in elementary and advanced accounting management information systems, business law, and cost accounting.
Pay:
$7,915.00
•$8,716.00 per month
