Jobs › New Bedford, MA › Sr. Cost Accountant Robert Half Sr. Cost Accountant New Bedford, MA Apply Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cost Accountant to support financial and operational analysis for a manufacturing environment in New Bedford, Massachusetts. This is a Contract position focused on strengthening cost reporting, inventory accuracy, and margin visibility while partnering with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting knowledge, sharp analytical ability, and a hands-on approach to improving cost insight and reporting quality.
Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver recurring gross margin reporting on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, highlighting trends and performance drivers.
Establish and maintain standard costs for products by evaluating material, labor, and overhead components.
Support month-end close activities by preparing journal entries, reviewing inventory balances, and assessing reserve needs for excess or obsolete stock.
Investigate cost variances and present clear explanations to management to support informed business decisions.
Produce detailed inventory and cost analyses to improve financial visibility across manufacturing operations.
Examine margin and inventory reports, perform profitability studies, and identify areas requiring further financial review.
Partner with internal teams, including IT, to address system-related issues and support enhancements affecting production, purchasing, receiving, and shipping processes.
Prepare accurate inventory and gross margin schedules and ensure timely submission of reporting packages to leadership.
Contribute to ad hoc analyses, cross-functional initiatives, and other assigned projects while following applicable safety and compliance standards. Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
At least 5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing setting.
Strong background in standard costing, cost analysis, and manufacturing cost accounting.
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and cost accounting standards.
Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze large data sets and build meaningful reports.
Experience working with business systems that support inventory, production, and financial reporting.
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
