Job Summary The Staff Accountant is responsible for all accounting for the nonprofit Cleveland Cord Blood Center and its wholly owned subsidiary, Cleveland Cell Therapy Incubator. They will be responsible for preparing financial records, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant and donor reporting requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position supports the Management Team by providing accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and helping ensure responsible stewardship of financial resources. Key Responsibilities Accounting for Each Entity o Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts o Monitor cash flow and communicate status with Management o Oversee automated Accounts Payable system and coordinate vendor payments o Invoice internal and external customers and oversee collections o Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly o Oversee outsourced payroll and employee benefits Financial Reporting for Each Entity o Prepare quarterly financial reporting package for Management Team and Board o Coordinate annual budget process and monitor actual results vs. budget during year o Prepare information for annual outside audit and manage audit process o Provide information to 401k Administrator for annual reporting and 5500 preparation Tax and Other Compliance o Gather and prepare information for annual IRS 990 tax preparation o Prepare and file sales taxes as required o Prepare or gather information for 1099 forms o Prepare or gather information for annual filings with various state agencies for Charitable Organizations o Prepare and file Annual Ohio Unclaimed Funds Report o Prepare and file Annual Registration for other states as applicable o Respond to Census and Survey requests Other o Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls and financial policies. o Review operational processes and procedures and recommend modifications with the goal of optimizing efficiency. o Understanding of relationships with bankers, auditors, insurance providers and other external providers.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and grant management
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Accounting software
Superb attention to detail
Problem solving including providing solutions
Ability to multitask and remain organized
Ability to take initiative to keep projects and tasks moving forward
High level of confidentiality to handle sensitive/confidential situations and documentation Hours are 30-32 hours per week
Qualifications Preferred:
CPA or MBA preferred
3+ years accounting experience, preferable in a nonprofit environment
Proficiency in QuickBooks software
Experience in Accounting for medium sized organization or non-profit

Pay:
$30.00 - $35.00 per hour
