Job Description

Senior Staff Accountant Position Summary We are seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing Finance & Accounting team. This position will work closely with the Controller and play an important role in managing the day-to-day accounting function, monthly close process, account reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The ideal candidate is comfortable taking ownership of their work while also operating as part of a hands-on, collaborative team. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys digging into the details, solving problems, improving processes, and helping build a strong accounting foundation in a growing organization. Key Responsibilities General Accounting & Month-End Close Partner with the Controller to execute the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes accurately and timely. Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, reclassifications, and other recurring or adjusting entries. Prepare and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations and supporting schedules. Research and resolve reconciling items, unusual transactions, and account discrepancies. Review general ledger activity for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification. Assist with maintaining the chart of accounts and overall integrity of the general ledger. Support preparation of monthly financial reporting and related analysis. Assist with external audit, tax, and other financial reporting requests as needed. Accounts Payable Help oversee the accounts payable process, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payment processing. Ensure expenses are recorded in the appropriate period and properly classified. Maintain accurate vendor records and assist with resolving vendor questions or discrepancies. Review AP aging and outstanding items and help ensure timely resolution. Support year-end vendor reporting and 1099 processes. Identify opportunities to improve AP workflows, controls, and efficiency. Accounts Receivable Help manage customer invoicing, cash application, and accounts receivable activity. Monitor AR aging and assist with follow-up on outstanding balances. Research and resolve customer account discrepancies, unapplied cash, credits, and other outstanding items. Reconcile AR activity to the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately. Partner with internal teams as needed to resolve billing and collection issues. Reconciliations & Accounting Controls Prepare monthly bank, credit card, balance sheet, and other assigned account reconciliations. Ensure reconciliations are completed timely and contain appropriate supporting documentation. Proactively investigate discrepancies and follow outstanding items through resolution. Assist with developing and documenting accounting procedures and internal controls. Help identify opportunities to streamline recurring accounting processes and improve the accuracy and efficiency of the close. Additional Responsibilities Serve as a knowledgeable accounting resource for employees across the organization. Assist the Controller with special projects, financial analysis, system improvements, and other accounting initiatives. Help develop scalable processes as the organization continues to grow. Cross-train across accounting functions to provide coverage and strengthen the Finance & Accounting team. Perform other accounting and finance responsibilities as business needs evolve. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and general ledger accounting. Experience preparing account reconciliations and participating in month-end close. Working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large amounts of financial data. Ability to research discrepancies, identify root causes, and independently work toward resolution. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable working collaboratively in a growing, fast-paced environment where processes may continue to evolve. Preferred Experience working in a manufacturing, startup, or other rapidly growing environment. Experience with ERP-based accounting systems. Experience assisting with external audits and year-end financial reporting. CPA or CPA-track experience is a plus but not required. What Success Looks Like A successful Senior Staff Accountant will become a trusted partner to the Controller and a dependable owner of key accounting processes. They will help ensure reconciliations are current, AP and AR remain well managed, and monthly close activities are completed accurately and on schedule. Over time, this person should develop a strong understanding of the company's accounting operations, proactively identify issues and opportunities for improvement, and take increasing ownership of accounting processes while helping the Finance & Accounting function scale with the business.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
