Annual Starting Salary is $52,121.38 Tom Green County (TGC) provides the following benefits for its employees: Medical/Dental insurance for employees at no cost to the employee $25,000 Life/AD&D Insurance for employees at no cost to the employee Low-cost Vision Insurance Paid Vacation/Sick/Holiday leave Retirement Plan Cafeteria Plan Workers Compensation Under general supervision, the Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining the county's general ledger, financial accounting, and grant reporting. This statutory position, appointed by the District Judges of Tom Green County, operates under the supervision of the County Auditor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee grant accounting and reporting across the County, ensuring compliance with all financial regulations. Audit payroll and accounts payable expenditures related to grants. Maintain the general ledger by processing journal entries, transfers, and budget amendments. Prepare work papers and assist with the annual external audit. Support the annual budget process by providing critical financial data. Review and recommend updates to financial policies. Responsible for annual forfeiture fund reporting for law enforcement offices. Perform internal audits and attend necessary meetings and training.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall computer skills, including Microsoft Word and accounting software. Strong understanding of general office operations, accepted auditing and bookkeeping procedures, and grant reporting requirements. Proven ability to manage time and projects efficiently, with strong analytical and decision-making skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to review, evaluate, and correct the work of others. Ability to maintain confidentiality and operate with independent judgment in a political environment. Excellent communication, research, and negotiation skills.
Physical Requirements:
Work in a well-lit, air-conditioned office environment. Prolonged periods of sitting with occasional walking, standing, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a business-related field. Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing is preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid State of Texas Driver License.
Additional Information:
Standard work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime. Limited travel for continuing education and within the County as required.
