Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations in Petersburg, Virginia. This role will help maintain accurate financial records, assist with period-end close activities, and contribute to the smooth execution of daily accounting functions. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in general ledger work, journal entry preparation, and accounts payable processing, along with a disciplined approach to accuracy and deadlines.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, investigating discrepancies and resolving issues as needed.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes by organizing records and validating account activity.
• Process accounts payable transactions, including invoice review, coding, and payment coordination.
• Assist in preparing financial reports and schedules for internal review and decision-making.
• Monitor accounting documentation for completeness and compliance with established procedures.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather financial information and address accounting-related questions. Requirements
• Experience working in a staff accounting or similar accounting support role.
• Working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
• Hands-on experience with accounts payable processes and invoice handling.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines accurately.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
