Job Description
State Farm is seeking a Claims Appraiser to evaluate auto and property damage and ensure fair, timely claim settlements. In this role, you'll inspect losses on-site and virtually, review repair estimates, analyze coverage, and negotiate settlements within authority limits. You'll collaborate with claim representatives, repair facilities, and policyholders to deliver clear, empathetic communication and outstanding service. You will document findings, maintain accurate claim files, and follow State Farm guidelines and regulatory requirements while contributing to a culture of integrity, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities Inspect and evaluate auto and property damage in the field or virtually Prepare accurate repair and settlement estimates using estimating software Review policy coverage and apply guidelines to determine payable amounts Negotiate repair costs and settlements with shops, contractors, and customers Document findings, photos, and notes in claim files accurately and promptly Collaborate with claim representatives and other stakeholders to resolve claims Ensure compliance with State Farm policies, procedures, and state regulations Provide clear, empathetic communication to policyholders and third parties Identify potential fraud indicators and escalate as appropriate Participate in ongoing training to maintain technical and regulatory expertise Required Skills Damage assessment (auto and/or property) Use of estimating software (e.g., Xactimate, CCC, Mitchell) Knowledge of insurance policy coverage and claims processes Auto body repair or construction/contractor knowledge Negotiation and settlement skills Technical report writing and documentation Digital photography and virtual inspection tools Regulatory and compliance awareness Customer service and conflict resolution Data entry and claims management systems (e.g., Guidewire, similar)
