Job Description

About the Role We are looking for a detail-oriented, technology-minded Bookkeeper / Accounting Specialist to join our growing tax and accounting firm in Clinton, Missouri. This position goes beyond traditional bookkeeping. The ideal candidate will help transform client financial data into accurate, timely, and useful information that business owners can use to make better decisions. You will manage day-to-day bookkeeping processes, maintain accurate financial records, utilize cloud-based accounting technology and automation, and work closely with our tax and advisory team to ensure clients receive accurate and actionable financial information. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, working with numbers, and helping small business owners understand their finances. What You'll Do Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations. Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and financial records. Record and categorize income and expenses. Review transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper classification. Identify unusual or potentially incorrect transactions and resolve discrepancies. Maintain organized supporting documentation for client transactions. Prepare and maintain clean, accurate books for multiple small-business clients. Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements. Review financial statements for accuracy and reasonableness before delivery to clients. Identify significant changes, unusual transactions, or trends that may warrant additional review. Help clients understand the financial information contained in their reports. Assist with development and tracking of client-specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Utilize cloud accounting platforms and connected financial technology to improve efficiency and accuracy. Set up and maintain automated bank and credit-card feeds. Utilize receipt capture and document-management tools. Develop and maintain accounting rules, workflows, and automated transaction coding. Look for opportunities to eliminate unnecessary manual data entry. Stay current with accounting technology and identify tools that can improve the client experience. Help maintain standardized bookkeeping procedures across the firm. Communicate professionally with clients to obtain missing information and resolve accounting questions. Develop positive, ongoing relationships with bookkeeping clients. Explain accounting concepts and financial reports in a way that business owners can understand. Proactively identify questions or issues rather than simply recording transactions. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive financial information. Coordinate with tax preparers to ensure accurate year-end books and timely tax-season handoffs. Identify potential tax-related items for review by the tax team. Assist with year-end adjustments and closing procedures. Provide organized financial information to tax preparers and advisors. Work collaboratively with the firm's accounting, tax, and advisory teams. Support additional accounting and advisory projects as needed. What We're Looking For 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience or equivalent demonstrated experience . Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and the accounting cycle. Experience with bank reconciliations and financial statement preparation. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team. High level of discretion when handling confidential financial information. QuickBooks Experience Proficiency with Microsoft Apps We value technological curiosity and the ability to learn just as much as knowing a particular software program. If you're comfortable learning new technology and enjoy finding better ways to accomplish a task, we'd like to hear from you. Our Work Environment We are a client-focused tax and accounting firm serving individuals and small businesses throughout the Central Missouri area and surrounding communities. We believe accounting should be about more than entering numbers and producing reports. Accurate books give business owners the information they need to understand their businesses, make decisions, and plan for the future. Our team uses technology and automation to reduce repetitive work while creating more opportunities for meaningful client service and advisory work. If you're someone who likes numbers, technology, problem-solving, and helping business owners succeed, we'd love to meet you.
